We embarked on the 16-hour round trip to Koh Samui from London Heathrow, with a short wait at Bangkok before catching our connecting flight to Koh Samui. Not only was it our first time traveling to Thailand but also the first time we’ve been on a villa holiday with friends, so we were all really excited for a different type of holiday to what we usually opt for.
Everything had been organised prior to our arrival with the wonderful team at Asian Luxury Villas, who organised a mix of accommodation, including beach based and further into the mountains to offer us a real mix of what was available on the island. And they certainly didn’t disappoint. Our first villa was an incredible 4 bedroom traditional style Thai within a small complex called Miskawaan Villa Hibiscus situated on Maenam Beach on the Northern Coast of Koh Samui. Our private paradise was positioned right on the beach with the most incredible views out to the ocean and opposite Island Ko Pha Ngan
The villa itself in typical Thai style is made up of pavilions, all of which are connected with the beautiful manicured lawns and courtyards. Our room was the master suite which came complete with a dressing room and impressive bathroom. The best part however was the view of the sea from the bed. Waking up each morning to the sound of the ocean was one of my favourite parts about Villa Hibiscus. The other three bedrooms (all en-suite) were equally as beautiful, with fresh orchids in every room, fluffy towels and comfy beds, it really felt like a much more luxurious home from home.
The only thing that has put me off of villa holidays in the past is the idea of cooking and cleaning. I like to do as little of that on holiday as possible, and whilst it’s fun to browse the local supermarkets and maybe throw together a BBQ, there’s always the clearing away afterwards. This thankfully wasn’t the case during our stay with Asian Luxury Villas. Each villa comes complete with a villa manager, daily cleaners and chef! Seriously I can’t believe how lucky we were to have our own chef. The villa staff really looked after us during our stay, we woke up daily to fresh coconuts and delicious breakfasts with fresh fruit platters, warm pastries and fresh eggs. We would then let them know if we were staying in for lunch and dinner or heading out and they would go out and buy the supplies daily dependant on what we wanted to eat that day. Spoiled is a complete understatement!
After lazy breakfasts overlooking the ocean in our pyjamas we would go for a morning walk down Maenam beach, play cards and drink ice cold beers around the pool, the complex has a gym on site, not that we bothered exploring it, preferring to get our exercise from jumping the waves in the sea or the occasional lap in the pool. We spent the first 3 days of our trip being lazy and working through our jetlag with fresh Thai curry’s and massages by the pool by the incredible masseuses who you could have called into the villa at pretty much any time, with just an hour’s notice.
Our villa manager organised moped’s to be delivered to the villa for us so that we could explore the island which was a really great way to get our bearings. The island, despite being one of the largest in Thailand, only takes about 1.5 hours to get around. I initially found the moped’s terrifying, after only ever driving quad bikes or buggies on holiday previously, and full disclosure, I can barely ride a push bike without falling off, but once my boyfriend had taken on all driving responsibilities it was actually such a fun way to explore, stopping off when we found a quite beach or a little beach bar that we liked the look of.
